Episode 206: Growing Dreams and Memories

Watch The Show

Gardens beautify, they feed, they serve as habitat for animals, and they do more.  Some gardens become places that heal bodies and souls or inspire new beginnings.  Such is the case with the locations we visit in this episode.  In Poway, children joyfully garden with elders inflicted with dementia or Alzheimer’s.  In San Diego, a hospital garden helps children escape the monotony and pressures of long stays.  In El Cajon, young adults with developmental disabilities find their lives’ purpose in the garden.  On a farm in Valley Center, military veterans are healing and creating new lives through the magic of growing.

  • St. Madeleine Sophie Center in El Cajon integrates provides garden training for adults with disabilities
  • Sunshine Care Assisted Living Facility in Poway has an intergenerational gardening program for children and seniors living with Alzheimer’s and dimentia
  • Archie’s Acres provides agriculture job training for service men and women returning from war
  • Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego has healing gardens for children and their families
